MacOS 12.2 beta 2 Released for Developers

Last Updated on 2 years by admin

Apple released MacOS 12.2 beta 2 for developers. The new developers beta was released just 3 weeks after the 12.2 beta. Developers are able to download the 12.2 beta 2 build number 21D5039d from the developers website. Or wait for the OTA updates to kick in.

What’s new in MacOS 12.2 beta 2

The new beta 2 comes with many improvements and fixes. As the key update we can share the native Music and TV app which is backed by the AppKit views. Though it is still not certain why Apple didn’t release it with the major Monterey macOS release, it is good to have the new features even in the 12.2 beta 2. As many users have experienced, the AppKit in macOS 12.1 has shown better performance in searching scrolling. Developers believe the same performance should be available in the new Music app.

Apple also informs that the new beta release should show better performance in the latest MacBook Pro with ProMotion. Specially the performance increase should be identified while surfing / scrolling in Safari browser.

How to Install MacOS beta

Before going forward to download the latest release of beta it is advisable to backup your Mac. This could save you from extra trouble.

MacOS backup

  1. Plugin the Time Capsule or an USB external hard drive (drive will be formatted during the backup process)
  2. From the upper left select and click the Apple icon
  3. Look for the System Preferences from the dropdown menu
  4. Select Time Machine and turn on using the slider
  5. Select backup disk and select the preferred disk
  6. Now the external disk will format itself and begin the backup process

Download macOS 12.2 beta 2

All registered developers have access to the new beta by accessing the developer center. The installation method listed below is the most common and easy way. However there are other ways of installing beta versions. As an example installing the beta on a separate partition will be different from the process listed below.

  1. Go to developer.apple.com using the Mac
  2. Tap on the Discover tab and click Download
  3. Login using the developer login when requested
  4. Click Install Profile button, wait for the macOS 12 file to complete its downloading
  5. Access the download section and select “macOS 12 Developer Beta Access Utility”
  6. Double tap the file “macOSDeveloperBetaAccessUtility.pkg” to begin the installer

Once the installer finishes downloading, it will automatically update the macOS. Now click update to get the developer beta release. By any chance if the beta version does not show up on the list of updates, restart the Mac. Open the Mac App Store and click the updates tab. Total process may take a while depending on the connectivity status and the size.

Once the process is complete it will prompt to install the software automatically. Click Continue, Agree to terms and conditions. Then click Install. Follow the screen instructions. Once the process is complete the Mac will restart. Initial restart may take a couple of minutes.

Still it is too early to comment on all the new features. And we hope to share more once we receive further information. Meantime if you come across anything new or interesting in the macOS 12.2 beta 2 release keep up updated through the comments section, Facebook or Twitter.
