The Antenna that is made for COTX-X3
If you are planning to extend the range for COTX Helium Miner, you need to purchase an antenna that fits COTX-X3. Also in the above section, we provided links to resources that provide information about how to find the right antenna. However, that is common for all helium miners. If you plan to use a COTX-X3, or if you are probably waiting for the miner to arrive meantime you can get the accessories. So that the setting up of COTX-X3 will be straightforward.
COTX-X3 comes with a female SMA interface. Therefore, one end of the extension cable should be female. And the other end of the cable should match the antenna interface that you select.
Some sellers offer antennas with cables. Also, the hntservice.eu also markets a 6 dBi antenna with a 2 Meter cable. And it is specially made for X3 miners.
Here’s a latest update about COTX-X3 Antenna – 12th November 2021
This action was taken to mainstream the market needs. As more and more customers look for Antenna extensions COTX decided to change the SMA antenna connector. However, the customers don’t have to worry about the problem as the resellers are supposed to get RP-SMA to SMA adaptors from COTX. And the shipments will include RP-SMA to SMA adaptors along with the hotspots.
POE for COTX-X3
By default, there is no way to power up the COTX X3 using power over ethernet. but there is an option we can try. COTX has clearly mentioned that the device posers up with 5V <10 watts.
If we can find a POE injector and a splitter that fits the above specifications, there is no doubt that the miner should work. Latest switches come with POE injection, and if you don’t have a POE switch there are plenty of POE injectors available online. Some injectors are separately made to match the plug types in EU and UK. Cost around €10.70.
I haven’t tested this yet however, theoretically all the specifications match. If anyone needs to try out the POE, then this should be helpful. Also, for someone with a POE injector, it only cost €8.22.
Using PoE Splitter 48V to 5V (3.0A) Micro-USB you can easily connect the COTX-X3. Furthermore, here are some technical details about the splitter.

Low Rate of POC Receipts
Another update on how things are going and our plans for the future. We increased the seed pool by 14 nodes, but it doesn’t appear to have made much of a difference in terms of meeting the network’s needs.
Next, we’ll add 8 more seed nodes, bringing the total number of seed nodes to 64. We’ll also lower the number of connections that each node must support. Although it may seem counterintuitive, we believe that having a larger number of nodes serving fewer Hotspots will allow the network to resume normal operations. (Rough math: 960k Hotspots and other chain-following nodes are served by 64 x 15000 connections.)

Big News from COTX
COTX launched their remote management “Cloud Services” console today. The new featured cloud service enables accessing hotspots from anywhere as long as you are connected.
Few of the main features of COTX Cloud Services are listed below

Cubify apologize for delays due to Courier problems. According to Cubify, they have provided correct custom documentation. but several orders have been returned. They also plan to change the current Courier service (UPS). Hope the deliveries will kick back soon as they have already addressed the issue.

ETL Service is Down
Community teams are looking at the ETL service that powers the API, Explorer, App, and transaction submission since it has fallen behind on synchronizing blocks. Please be aware that while it is behind, transactions may stay pending for an extended length of time.
If you submit a transaction, it will not be completed until ETL is operational again.

Helium Hotspot Miner version updated to 2021.12.09.0_GA.
A new 2021.12.09.0 Hotspot firmware update has been tagged, which includes a suggested issue patch in erlang-libp2p. This update may help to alleviate the zero-witness beacon problem that has been plaguing relayed Challenger Hotspots that have been failing to obtain witness receipts.
COTX Firmware 1.1.15 is now available with following updates.
1) To improve the security of the Web management account, you must first log in with the last six digits of the device ID, and you will be required to reset the password after that.
2) In Web management, fix the bug of word spelling mistakes.
3) Replace COTX default SD Card with user flash image and add user flash image to SD Card.
4) Fix the problem that causes Fast sync failure when the user’s network speed is poor.

COTX sent out a message today telling users that the dashboard password would be changed to a six-digit device ID soon. If you’re still using the default password, you should change it right now. To avoid future problems, be sure to store the new password securely or memorize it.
Steps to access Web management
- Take the IP address from the COTX hotspot display and paste it into a web browser.
- Fill in the username (admin) and password fields. Try the password admin or 123456 if the factory version is < V1.0.30 or ≥ V1.0.30. Input the last six characters of the device ID as the password in version ≥ V1.1.15. If you forget your password, press, and hold the Bluetooth button for 20 seconds to restore the default login password.
- Now, go to Web management and change your password as soon as you can. Note that OTA updates will have no effect on the new password.

Today COTX distributed a message informing that the dashboard password will soon be changed to device ID which includes six digits. If you are still having the default password it is better to change it now. Also, make sure to securely store the new password or remember it to avoid future issues.
Announcement by Official Helium Community
The core level developers are currently working on several seed node-related issues, including the analysis of a few suspected network size scaling vulnerabilities. They’re also bringing in five additional seed nodes.
The community is reporting an increase in “zero-witness” beacons, and we’re attempting to figure out if this is due to seed nodes hitting new limits due to the current network capacity, or if it’s due to other issues that we’re not seeing right now (including potentially Hotspot gossip changes, etc.)

- Hotspot Miner updated to 2021.12.06.0_GA. This update includes DNS query enhancements and fix Seed notes.
- COTX Firmware updated to 1.1.14
Furthermore, Manufacturers of the hotspot should update the 2021.12.06.0 version before releasing the order to customers. This update also helps European customers as the ISP requires specific DNS settings. (DNSSEC). Also, the update helps improve peer gossip as well.
4th December 2021 – Update
Helium Miner version updated to 2021.11.30.1_GA and the COTX firmware updated to 1.1.12.
What’s New in – 2021.11.30.1_GA Helium Minor Version
2021.11.30.1_GA Update: Improve snapshot load performance and basic rocksdb turning. Also, the update includes bug fixes as well.
Updates related to 1.1.12 firmware: Fast Sync added to web management and few other fixes.
How to enable Fast Sync from web management
Towards the left view of the Dashboard, you should see “Blockchain Hight” and in front of it you should see Loading, Fully Synced or Fast Sync.
Loading – At this stage you should make sure the network is connected. To get the updated dashboard results refresh the page. Moreover, the reason for seeing loading could be due to the current block height. If not the height of the latest snapshot is not obtained. Usually checking network connectivity and refreshing dashboard page should fix the loading issue.
Fully Synced – If this is displayed then you do not need to worry about enabling fast sync. Fully synced means there is no need of the Fast Sync option. Theoretically Fully Synced means that the current local block of the hotspot has reached or exceeded the latest snapshot block.
Fast Sync – If you see the “Fast Sync” button in front of the “Blockchain Height” then click on the FAST SYNC. This will quickly bring the current block height of the Hotspot to the level of last latest snapshot. Moreover, if the process of downloading latest snapshot time out then the download will end, and the Fast Sync will not be activated. If you face such an issue do a page refresh and try again. Also, if the issue exists connect the hotspot using the cable. This ensures the network speed. Sync log is available for further troubleshooting.
23-24th November 2021 – Update
COTX-X3 finally was able to onboard to the Helium Network. Furthermore, the miner version updated to 2021.11.11.0_GA and the COTX firmware version 1.0.39 was released.
November 3rd, 2021 – Update
As of yesterday, Cubify_Official announced that the cotx-x3 helium miner shipments started to rollout. The customers can get the miners sooner than expected. If you are one of the lucky customers, you should receive the tracking details via email. Also, the current dispatch is for the Batch 1 and the Back 2 will start delivery soon as the first back is complete.
Furthermore, New orders for COTX cannot be placed until the 6 months’ probation ends. Therefore, if you are looking for new miners try out the UG65 or any other option.
Update – October 15th, 2021
Finally, the MOC has voted to convert the COTX networks suspension to a 6 months’ probation. Right now, COTX can on-board hotspots. Also, the existing orders can be completed. However, this does not mean that COTX can take new orders during this probation period. Furthermore, COTX-3 devices purchased from Cubify will be delivered within a week. This also includes a free 4GB memory upgrade for all customers.
Update – September 28th, 2021.
Very unsettling and shocking news just released by Cubify Team. According to the released news Helium Network has temporary suspended COTX. There is no need to panic right now because they are continuing communications to get a working solution. Have Faith and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Temporary Suspension of the Manufacturer: COTX
The DeWi Manufacturing Oversight Committee (MOC) has chosen to temporarily stop COTX Networks from onboarding hotspots. Due to troubling patterns that have observed with COTX hotspots that have already been deployed by their partners and employees in advance of sales to the general public. The time being, COTX will continue to provide the MOC with explanations and reports to help rectify, and hopefully, resolve the matter.
How does the suspension affect?
During the suspension, new COTX hotspots will not be able to place on the Helium blockchain. Presently active / already connected COTX hotspots will continue to perform normally.
Reasons for suspension?
Identified a population of COTX hotspots that show troubling signs of “gaming” — attempts to earn rewards while not providing real coverage for the Helium network.
Will the suspension be lifted?
As of now there is no exact date been informed to re-instate COTX’s onboarding ability. The suspension will only be lifted once the Manufacturing Oversight Committee has finished its investigation and is convinced that COTX’s deployment and sales plans will benefit the network overall.
