With the release of iOS 15 there were major improvements for the CarPlay. And even the CarPlay wired to wireless converter devices was updated to match the updates. However, with release of iOS 15 CarPlay issues were noticed in some iPhones.

Common Issues with iOS 15 CarPlay for iPhone 13

iPhone 13 with iOS 15 – CarPlay suddenly crash

iPhone 13 with iOS 15 CarPlay suddenly crash while trying to play music using Apple Music or any other providers. Furthermore, this issue clams to be happening in both CarPlay wired to wireless versions. However, we still couldn’t test the bug on cars with wireless carplay dongles like Carlinkit 3.0.

Even the iOS iOS 15.1 beta doesn’t seem to fix the issue. Anyhow, while we wait for a long-term solution with a bug fix from Apple there are few things, we can tryout from our end.

Fixes for iPhone 13 CarPlay crash issue

Though these is a fix listed in our post we don’t guarantee that this will be a permanent solution for the iPhone 13 CarPlay issue. However, you can try Connecting car play using Bluetooth and have the Spotify or the Apple Play app open on the iPhone 13 screen even while it is connected to the CarPlay.

Other common issues with CarPlay are related to recognizing apps through carplay. It has been same while changes done using iPhone settings app. Users complain that the app icon can be moved around but the icons move back to default location as soon as you exit the screen.

Also, the above-mentioned crash issue is related to all streaming apps that are listed. Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Prime Music

Fix iPhone 13 CarPlay issue for iOS 15

Here are some fixes that would help to overcome the iOS 15 CarPlay issues related to iPhone 13. Further, as shared above there is no guarantee that the fixes will solve your issues. But it is worth trying it as we are not sure when apple will release a fix.

Relink CarPlay (forget car & setup)

Steps to forget the Car from iPhone and reconnect.

  1. In “Settings” app on your iPhone tap “General”
  2. Touch on “CarPlay” next Tap on “Connected Car”
  3. Select Forget this Car (this will disconnect the previous connection between the Car and the iPhone)
  4. Start the Car, wait for few seconds until the car infotainment system is powered up
  5. On the iPhone tab “Available Cars” and select it.

This could connect the Apple Device with CarPlay

Cable the Cable – Relevant only for cars with wired CarPlay systems

Though the issue started with an iOS update still there could be issues related to the cable. Specially if you are using third party cables there could be connectivity issues.

  1. If the cable is original check, it again for possible damages. If there’s no visible damages, try the following.
    1. Connect with PC / iMac with iTunes and test the cable. For an example try a file transfer.
    2. Connect the cable with charger and test whether the iPhone is charging

With these tests you can make sure the cable is working.

  1. If the cable used isn’t the original, try using a genuine cable.

Install available iOS updates

If the iPhone is on iOS 15 try installing the beta release of iOS 15.1 or wait for the future updates.

Reset the Car Audio System

Finally, if none of the above solutions work you can try resetting the car infotainment system. To proceed with this step, you may need to refer to the car manufacturers website. As it is not possible to provide step guides for all available car models. Most Car’s as a settings option that will lead you to this step. Anyhow the best option is to refer manufacture website or the manual.
