IOS 15.7.1 UPDATE CAUSED FACE ID TO STOP WORKING? (FIXED!)

Last Updated on 2 years by admin

Face ID stopped working after updating to iOS 15.7.1? When facial recognition is reconfigured, an error message that reads “Face ID is Not Available” appears on the iPhone. Then you are asked to  move the iPhone slightly lower or higher, finally you may then be advised to attempt setting up Face ID later.

Reddit users who were experiencing the same face ID problem confirmed that it is a widespread problem for iOS 15.7.1 users. However, as we noticed in the same thread, the problem was resolved with the most recent build, which was made available on October 27. Anyhow, there isn’t any more evidence that we can confirm the same save the statement that CockroachLate posted.

CockroachLate posted.

A tech expert from the Apple Store had once incorrectly identified the face ID failure as a hardware issue. Thankfully, the owner of the iPhone 12 Pro experiencing issues with face ID recognition has tried to update the handset to iOS 16. The face ID resumed normal operation after the upgrade was finished. This is a useful lesson for all of us. Do not panic and dash to the Apple Store if you discover any component failure shortly after running an update. Always try rolling back to an earlier iOS version or updating to the most recent version. This could most likely correct the problem.

How To Fix Face ID Is Not Available

You may want to attempt the below fix if you are getting the Face ID is Not Available problem. We can now confirm that both restarting the iPhone and deleting the iOS 15 Beta Profile are ineffective. The only two possibilities up till we find a better solution are:

  1. Revert Back To iOS 15.7

On iOS 15.7, Face ID performed flawlessly for all users. Downgrading is still possible because, thankfully, 15.7 is still signed. Here’s how to do it.

  • To connect to it, you’ll need a Mac or Windows computer with iTunes (for Windows) or Finder (for Mac), as well as a Lightning to USB connector
  • Make sure your PC has a backup of your encrypted iPhone

Advice: Ideally, you need a backup that was made with iOS 15.7 or earlier. If not you can create one right away and make the necessary adjustments by searching the phrase “HOW TO TWEAK IOS 16 BACKUP TO RESTORE IOS 15 ON IPHONE” on google.

  • The iOS 15.7 ipsw file for your specific iPhone model is available for download here.

Follow the steps

  • Turn off Find My iPhone by going to Settings -> Apple ID -> Find My on your iPhone. If not, attempting to recover the device will result in an error
  • Click Restore iPhone on Mac while holding down the alt (option) key. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key and click Restore iPhone)
  • In the dialog box that appears, pick the iOS 15.7 ipsw file you just downloaded. Click Open. To confirm that you want to delete your iPhone OS and install iOS 15.7 again, click Restore. Wait patiently for it to finish. A progress bar and the white Apple logo can be seen on the device’s screen. Note – At this point, you will see a warning if the backup you used was downloaded using a more recent iOS version:
“iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored.”
  1.  Update To iOS 16/ 16.1

Follow the steps.

  • Search for General > VPN & Device Management > iOS 15 Beta Software Profile in the Settings app. Profile removed
  • Restart the iPhone
  • Open Settings, then select General, then Software Update.

Install iOS 16 or iOS 16.1 by downloading it

Hope these steps support fixing the Face ID Is Not Available error.
