Anyone who hasn’t upgraded to iOS 16 can get iOS 15.7.1 from Apple, which includes security updates

Apple released iOS & iPadOS 15.7.1 yesterday, which includes bug fixes and security improvements, in order to target iPhones and iPads that haven’t been updated to the new  iOS 16 & iPadOS 16 mobile operating system that was released this Fall.

The conventional short change log for iOS & iPadOS 15.7.1 only has the phrase “This update delivers vital security updates and is recommended for all users.”

To be fair, Apple released iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 on Monday. These updates included a number of security fixes, including a fix for a zero-day attack. Which may have been actively exploited in the wild.  Anyhow if you decide not to update iOS or iPadOS 16, the iOS 15.7.1 will undoubtedly fix this same security issue/s. All of the security patches contained in this update have been updated on Apple’s relevant security material webpage.

It’s recommended to stay on the newest firmware version. However, if you’re operating an iOS or iPadOS 15 device and want to wait for a jailbreak, then this update is not for you.

Of course, anyone on iOS or iPadOS 15.7 or earlier who isn’t awaiting a jailbreak is free to update to iOS or iPadOS 15.7.1 or, if their device supports, iOS or iPadOS 16.1 is the latest iOS release available for the general public.

It’s important to note that some devices, such as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, are permanently locked to iOS 15 since they cannot be upgraded to the more recent iOS 16 mobile operating system. The most recent software that these devices can now run is iOS 15.7.1, so keep that in mind.

There are two different ways you can update to iOS or iPadOS 15.7.1:

Over-the-air (OTA) by going to Settings General Software Update

Via Finder on macOS or iTunes on Windows by checking for updates whie having the required device connected via a USB to Lightning wire.

UPDATE 28/10/2022 – iOS 15.7.1 bug – Face ID Is Not Available

Only a small number of incidents involving an iOS 15.7.1 problem have been documented, nevertheless. As a result, “Face ID Is Not Available.” appeared. If Face ID doesn’t work, there is a chance of going back to version 15.7. Therefore, testing the upgrade is not a problem; see this post for additional information.

Have you upgraded to iPadOS 15.7.1 or iOS 15.7.1? Do you think it’s a vice choice ? Keep us posted through the comments sec
