Google Stops Dessert Names for Android 10

A couple of months ago, Google released a beta for Android Q as the next version of Google’s mobile operating system. Google announced today Google Q as Android 10 and Google will keep releasing versions of Android with version numbers in the future.

Google called Android OS versions by sweets name almost from the beginning. But dessert names ended with the Android version 10, and last desert version is Pie. However, Android has released 14 official dessert-themed so far. Check the below of the page for the list of dessert themed.

Why is Google dropping desserts name with Android 10? 

Recently, Google claims more than 2.5 billion active devices around the world. With this global usage increment, unusual naming tradition difficult to understand for many users around the world. Dessert names are not universally understood in different cultures and different languages. 

So, globally used brand like Android, should be named in a globally recognizable way. Therefore, Google changing the way it names Android releases to make it clear and relatable for global users. So, the Android operating system will simply be called Android 10 Q this year and Android 11 next year. 

Android 10 also comes with a refreshed logo of Android robot sitting on top. Also, the color changed from green to black for better visibility.
