“Find My” is the hottest app in which came with the update; Also, it is a combination of Apple’s Find My Friends and Find My iPhone. The app is available in iOS 13 and macOS Catalina.

The app allows Apple users to track friends that they share location data with and locate their device. Above all the devices being online or offline does not affect the tracking.

How does “Find My” work offline and track devices?

The previous version of the tracking app “Find My iPhone” allows you to track any device associated with your Apple ID. It can be an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac or AirPods and will only be able to display the location as long as the device is online.

Unlike in the previous app, Apple’s “Find My” offers offline location support, this explains how it works and what resources will be required.

All Apple device emits a key which repeatedly changes. This key can be picked up by other neighboring Apple devices on request, and then it is used to upload the missing device’s location in an encrypted manner, which subsequently allows tracking the Apple device.

Apple explains: “locate a missing device even if it’s not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular using crowd‑sourced location. When you mark your device as missing and another Apple user’s device is nearby, it can detect your device’s Bluetooth signal and report its location to you. It’s completely anonymous and encrypted end‑to‑end, so everyone’s privacy is protected.”

To decrypt the location and track your lost Apple device, you will need to own a secondary Apple device.

Using the “Find My” app to track or locate an Apple device

Step Guide-

  • First of all, make sure you are on iOS 13 or macOS Catalina’s latest update and linkes to your Apple ID
  • After that, open the Find My app on an Apple device
  • Then, touch on the ‘Devices’ tab at the bottom of your display
  • Now, search for your device within the list (as mentioned above your device need to be linked to your Apple ID)
  • Once you have found the Apple device that you wish to locate, click on it
  • Lastly, the app will display three options, and you may select one as required: Erase, Mark as Lost or Play a Sound

Expected features to come in the near future with the “Find My” app.

Apple is rumored to be launching its “Tile-like” item tracking device that users will get the chance to link with items like wallets or keys to keep track of in the Find My app under an ‘Items’ section.

With the available leaks about the Tile-Like device we believe, iPhone users will get a notification when the connected device (key/wallet) gets separated from Apple tracker and the item it’s attached. Users will also be able to trigger an alarm or noise from the device to help them find it imagining it is lost.

The finding also say there will be a safe location markup so that the alerts will not receive even when if the device loses its connection while located in a safe marked location. Also, those locations will be ready to be shared with friends and family. Example – If your home marked as a safe location, the Tile-Like tag attached to your wallet will not send any notification even if the Apple device disconnects from the Tile-Like device.

If an item attached to the Tile Like Apple tracker is lost, users would be able to activate a dedicated lost mode so that if another iPhone user finds the thing/item, they will be able to see the contact information of the owner, which allow them to call/message the owner.

It seems like Apple is already up with much more to offer in the near future. Join us to get the latest and the most accurate updates.
