Last Updated on 2 years by admin

Fitness+ on the iPhone, iCloud Shared Photo Library, the Live Activities API, Matter support, battery percentage changes, and other new features are all included in iOS 16.1 latest update.

Yesterday (October 24, 2022)Apple released the updated iOS 16.1 operating system for the iPhone’s . If you are still on the previous iOS it’s time for the update.

Before you proceed make sure you  have at least 50% battery life and it’s plugged into power. Now go to Settings General Software Update to install an over-the-air update. The operating system on your device will be refreshed by installing the update over the air without deleting anything.

Apple’s iCloud Shared Photo Library

Apple’s iCloud Shared Photo Library

Now, iCloud supports sharing media with five additional people. This can be done by setting up a separate Photos library. Depending on criteria like the start date or subjects of the photos, anyone can contribute with their old pictures and videos. The ability to add, edit, favorite, caption, and delete photos is shared across devices with the permissions.

The Photos app allows you to quickly navigate between your private library, shared library, or both. Additionally, you can directly save pictures to the shared library in Camera with the iOS 16.1 update.

Features of Shared Photo Library on iCloud

  • With up to five other people, you can share photos and videos with ease thanks to a separate library
  • When you create or join a library, setup rules make it simple to add old photos based on the start date or the subjects
  • Quickly view your personal library, the shared library, or both libraries at once with the help of library filters
  • Everyone can add, edit, favorite, caption, and delete photos thanks to shared edits and permissions
  • You can choose to send photos you take directly to the Shared Library using the Sharing toggle in the Camera, or you can enable a setting to share automatically when other participants are detected nearby using Bluetooth

Dynamic Island in landscape

In iOS 16.1, Dynamic Island functions in landscape mode. Additionally, Dynamic Island displays an outline on dark wallpaper to prevent it from blending into the background.

Michael can vouch that many of the annoying bugs he previously reported on have been fixed in iOS 16.1. A faster Face ID animation and an audio output icon for the Music app that resembles your actual headphones are just two examples of quality-of-life improvements.

Furthermore, in the Screenshots app, the share sheet has also been elevated to the top which also highlights another change that came with iOS 16.1.

Changes in battery percentage

All iOS 16-compatible iPhone models, including the iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini, now support battery percentage. The battery percentage style in the status bar has been improved by Apple to make it easier to read. When plugged into power, just like before, a battery charging indicator will be visible for a brief period of time on the lock screen.

Live Activities API

The Live Activities API, allows developers to implement their own live activities for the lock screen which is another feature of iOS 16.1 that improves third-party apps. These can consist of sports results, real-time updates on applications like Lyft, and more. These updates may even be able to live in the Dynamic Island with Live Activities so that they are always accessible while multitasking.

Haptic keyboard changes, Wallet, etc.

You can now activate automatic downloads of in-app content by turning on a new setting in Settings. Keyboard feedback from haptics is less noticeable. You can find and replace text in Notes as well as organize items and straighten handwritten text.

Furthermore, if you no longer use Wallet, you can now uninstall it.
