Macs in March – With the introduction of several of the new Mac models this year. Apple’s Silicon transition is expected to gain even more traction. Mark Gurman expands on what to expect this year in a new report for Bloomberg, estimating that seven new Apple Silicon-powered Macs will be released by 2022.

In 2022, what can we expect from Apple Silicon?

Mark Gurman writes in the latest ‘Power On‘ Bloomberg news letter that the new iMacs will be equipped with the latest processors.

Latest Processors used in Apple

  • M1 Pro and M1 Max chips from last year
  • M1 Max super-powered versions
  • A new M2 chip

But how will those processors be distributed across Apple’s product line? According to Mark Gurman, he expects at least seven new Macs with Apple Silicon on the inside in 2022.

Seven New Apple Products in 2022(Macs in March)

  • A new Mac mini with the M1 Pro processor
  • A 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip will replace the 2020 model. And sit between the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the line
  • A larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options
  • A redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip
  • A 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip
  • A larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options
  • A half-sized Mac Pro with the equivalent of two or four M1 Max chips, the first with Apple Silicon

The next round of Mac announcements is expected to take place in March. And thats when Apple hosts its first event of the year. Mark predicts that the entry-level MacBook Pro and Mac mini will be the next to be upgraded, citing the fact that they are “two of the oldest Apple Silicon Macs in the lineup today.”

This suggests that a new Mac mini and an entry-level MacBook Pro will be publicly announced at Apple’s rumored March 8 event. Following that, Gurman claims that Apple is “gearing up for another round of Mac releases around May or June,” according to his sources.

The new iMac Pro and the new Mac Pro with the “super-powered versions of the M1 Max”. This could be the focus of the second round of Mac releases.
  • The Mac Pro chips will be available in two flavors: one that doubles the capabilities of the M1 Max and another that quadruples them. The first chip will have 20 CPU cores and 64 graphics cores, while the second will have 40 CPU cores and 128 graphics cores
  • The M2’s CPU will most likely be faster than the M1, but it will have the same eight-core architecture as the M1. However, graphics could get a boost from seven or eight cores to nine or ten

Finally, based on what we’ve seen so far of Apple’s silicon roadmap, Gurman predicts that “Pro and Max versions of the M2” will debut in 2023 alongside the first M3. Do you think Apple will add more models to the upcoming lineup? share your thoughts through comments below.
