Following complaints from developers and App Store users about the frequency of gambling ads, Apple has paused App Store advertisements related to gambling.
Last Tuesday on social media, app developers expressed their displeasure over the frequent inclusion of gambling ads in Apple’s new App Store ad slots. As a result Apple has removed gambling-related.
“We have paused ads related to gambling and a few other categories on App Store product pages.” – above statement was extracted from AppleInsider
Apple’s new ad slots prominently featured gambling apps, with some users reporting seeing gambling app advertisements up to 30% of the time.
The advertisements could be seen on pages for gambling addiction recovery apps as well as next to kid-friendly apps.
Apps for gambling are very divisive. Players can wager using the apps on casino-style games like Blackjack, poker, roulette, and more. Many of these apps also let users know that they can use PayPal, Apple Pay, or prepaid debit cards to convert winnings to cash.
Many claimed that Apple had lost sight of its customer-first vision by allowing the ads in the first place.
Moreover, a quick check on Wednesday night revealed no sign of the gambling apps, but there were some app advertisements that were at least somewhat relevant.
If you notice any gambling ads in the App Store, let us know so we can determine whether Apple stopped advertising in particular regions or not.
