Status of Checkra1n Jailbreak for iOS 15 and Higher

Last Updated on 3 years by admin

Here’s good news for Jailbreak lovers. Since few days we have seen conversations here and there among the iOS Jailbreakers. Moreover, Siguza the iOS hacker / security researcher from Switzerland reveals news about an upcoming Chekra1n Jailbreak for iOS 15.

What’s new in upcoming Checkra1n

This information is provided based on the Discord Checkra1n channel. The Checkra1n upcoming new release support iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. And that’s exactly what we needed right?

They’ve made some significant adjustments for the upcoming Checkra1n Jailbreak. Despite reports that iOS 15 and higher can only be jailbroken with a rootless jailbreak, Checkra1n is going to change that. And they are focusing on doing bind mounts.

Checkrain rootless

As we are familiar with Apple make Jailbreaking much harder with the release of iOS 15. Being said that any modification to the Apple’s SSV file system avoid booting the iPhone. The only possible Jailbreak was rootless and should not modify any file system.

However, with the Checkra1n new release they have found a work around that could possibly be the future of Jailbreaking iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and above versions. This is becoming real. As for now the Chekrain is using bind mounts which will support creating a new volume. Also, it the new volume mount can support to populate with unsupported stuff. Which can make it the new rootfs.

Chaikra1n Upcoming Release

Further in the conversation we get to reveal that Apple heavily uses bind mounts. And the union mounts are dead.

Up to now the Checkra1n has sorted out everything up to SSH access. The process is happening and according to Siguza it could be completed within five to seven days of work. That doesn’t mean that the release will take place in 7 days.

Which devices support Checkra1n new release

Checkra1n works based on Checkm8 the hardware-based bootrom exploit. Therefore, the new release of checkra1n should support the same range of devices as before. Which means iPhone 6s to iPhone X (A7 to A11 equipped devices) should support Checkra1n iOS 15 new release.

Release Date (ETA)

Siguza indicates in the line of communication that while the development takes 5 – 7 days, it would not happen till Christmas. Again, replying to comments he responds to an eta related question by saying “it will release when someone has time to fix all the shit”

New Checkran eta

We are clear that everyone is busy this season. Therefore, we need to have some patience. Hopeful within January we can celebrate the freedom of Jailbreaking with Checkra1n.

Until then don’t believe early eta’s shared online. As we know that it’s going to take time.

25th December Confirmed

We will share more updates on eta and other chakra1n news as we receive.
