Havoc repository recently announced that they support rootless jailbreaking for all themes hosted with the repo. This announcement didn’t come out of the blue, as the repository had already started accepting rootless jailbreak-supported packages since last month.
Few hours ago, the news of the rootless jailbreak support was tweeted to the public. Below is the tweet for reference:

For those who prefer using rootless jailbreak, this can be an exciting development, as it means they have more options for customizing the aesthetics of their iDevice. Also, it will be interesting to see how other repositories and developers respond to this trend.
More about rootless jailbreak support
In the Tweet above, Havoc mentions both the upcoming Dopamine jailbreak and the palera1n-c jailbreak. Both jailbreaks are rootless and are expected to work on arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1 and checkm8 devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.x.
Jailbreakers can use themes to customize the aesthetics of their iPhone or iPad, especially the app icons on their Home Screen. Some themes even allow users to theme the user interface elements of apps and Control Center. This is different from jailbreak tweaks, which offer usability differences from a stock user experience.
Although non-jailbreakers can also use themes, the user experience is significantly better on jailbroken devices. Themed icons on the Home Screen represent the apps directly, which means no annoying shortcut notifications and support for app icon badge notifications.
The trend towards rootless jailbreaking
It’s not surprising to see other jailbreak repositories making similar announcements as rootless jailbreaking seems to be the way of the future. Both the BigBoss and Chariz repositories have already welcomed rootless jailbreak-supported packages. Some developers have even created their own repositories specifically for these types of packages.
Overall, the trend towards rootless jailbreaking is gaining popularity, and it will be interesting to see how other repositories and developers respond to this change in the jailbreaking community.
Looking back to March announcements
On March 16th, 2023, Havoc tweeted the news informing the public that the repo supports rootless jailbreak packages.

Havoc now supports rootless packages. This means you can now upload both root and rootless .debs of your packages!
Though it was unclear whether the other developers would take advantage of Havoc, just after few hours iCraze, #zenira, and 0xilis quickly followed suit and added rootless support to their packages. They tweeted this news to the public just a few hours after the original tweet.
However, it was initially unclear whether all developers would take advantage of Havoc’s rootless support. There were mixed thoughts among the community. In particular, news from TrollStore developer @opa334 created more doubts, as they informed the community that the BigBoss repository wouldn’t accept rootless packages.
Despite this initial confusion, it seems that many developers have embraced rootless jailbreaking and are actively adding support for it. This is an exciting development for the jailbreaking community, as it offers more options for customization and could potentially attract more users to the community.
Wrap-up
Developers supporting it is a positive sign for the future of rootless jailbreaking. It’s exciting to see more entities jumping onboard and contributing to this trend.
