iOS 15.2 Adds More Features to iPhone Power Reserve Option

Power Reserve isn’t a brand-new feature. Even yet as compared to previous versions of iOS, iOS 15.2 breathes new vitality into it. Developers hinted of releasing these features with iOS 15. However, even after a long delay now Apple has released the updates with iOS 15.2

What is Power Reserve

Power Reserve is a mode that saves the battery beyond the normal power saver mode. In this mode the phone may totally turn off its normal functions. However, there are a few essential tasks that could carry on even in this mode. Also, these can work up to 5 hours from the time the battery dies.

What’s new in Power Reserve – iOS 15.2

Along with many other features, Apple iOS brings us Power Reserve with 15.2 update. Now locate my phone feature works up to 5 hours after the battery runs out. In other words, “find my iPhone” can locate lost iPhone even within 5 hours after the battery die.

Apart from the above features, the other essential features that Apple introduced in the recent past now support the Power Reserve feature. Other major features introduced in iOS 15.2 Battery reserve mode are the apple car key, express transit apple pay. Express Transit was available in previous versions, however the new release made it more secure.

Running out of iPhone battery will no longer leave you stranded. The great mind of having this feature could engage more people in using the digital features linked with battery reserve.

When was Power Reserve introduced?

Will you trust us if we tell you that Apple’s iOS 12 includes a power saver mode?  And that was back in September 2018. Yes, it is correct. Even though the functionality was not well known at the time the feature was added to iOS. We now know that Apple intended to make the function more realistic.

Older versions of power-reserve had limited Features. Near field communication was the main power reserve link. As a result, NFC tags and express cards were usable for up to 5 hours even after the iPhone battery went dead.

Power Reserve Supported Devices

The support fully functioned Power Reserve features require Ultra-Wideband. We discussed it during car play update. Therefore, any iPhone with UWB supports this feature.

Power Reserve fully supported devices:

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max

However, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR also support the basic battery reserve features. iPhone SE 2nd generation supports certain very limited features.

How to Enable Power Reserve Mode

Poser Reserve can be enabled on iOS 15.2 and hopefully newer versions using the slide to power off screen. iPhone automatically enables this mode once the battery dies.

However, if the phone was manually set to “off” it wouldn’t go into Power Reserve Mode.

How to exit Power Reserve Mode

You don’t have to go through any extra steps to exit from Power Reserve. When you connect your phone to a charger, Power Reserve is turned off.

How to add cards to function as “Express Card”

“Express Cards” work in Power Reserve mode. But first you need to add your cards to Express Card. Once that is done Touch ID for Face ID authentication is not required.

Below are some of the supported card types

  • A payment or transit card designated as the Express Transit card
  • Student ID cards with Express Mode turned on
  • Resort passes with Express Mode turned on
