Solutions that support fixing Auto-Correction on the iPhone and iPad

Last Updated on 3 years by admin

The Auto-Correct feature is something that we use very often. It helps us fix our spelling errors. This feature is available on both iPhone and iPad. Even Though this feature most often ensures to keep our messages error free, some of us have bad experiences using it. This is because the autocorrect / auto correction feature sometimes stops working. Here we provide you with the best possible solutions that support fixing Auto-Correction on the iPhone.

Solutions that could bring back autocorrect

Restart the iPhone / iPad

Most minor issues get auto fixed with a simple restart. Therefore, before going through advance changes in settings it is always easy to try a simple restart. Restart means simply power off the iPhone or the iPad and power it back. This is the most common way to troubleshoot several issues.

Restart iPhone using AssistiveTouch

By any chance if the power button is damaged in your Apple device try enabling the Assistive Touch. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch.

Once the Assistive Touch is enabled you will notice a floating button on your screen. Now tap on AssistiveTouch floating button>Device>More>Restart

Restart using Standard Menu Buttons

This step is simple: you just need to go to Settings>General>Look for Restart and Tap on it.

Once the device is restarted checkout to see whether the autocorrect error is fixed. If you still have the issue, move to the next option.

Double check to see whether the Auto-Correction is enabled

Auto-Correction is a feature that comes enabled with iPhones default setting-up. However, mistakenly you could disable it. Below steps might help you enable Auto-Correct for iPhone and iPad.

Tap on Settings>General>Keyboard>from the list of displayed options to make sure Auto-Correction is enabled. If it was disabled previously the Auto-Correction should work now.

Check below image for better understanding.

Enable Check Spelling and Predictive text

This is another step that you need to check out if you are facing trouble with Auto-Correction. The settings for Check Spelling and Predictive text is under the settings section.

Check Spelling – While this is enable iPhone / iPad autocorrect the spelling errors. Even while you are facing issues with the Auto-Correction feature, spelling errors will display highlighted while you have the check spelling enabled.

Predictive text – This feature identifies the typing style. Especially if you continue typing with the previous style, predictive text will show words that help you complete the sentence. Commonly typed names, email addresses also come under predictive text.

If you need to activate the above features go to Settings>General> keyboards and scroll down until you find the Check Spelling and Predictive text.

Enabling above features could work as an alternative solution for auto-correction.

Make sure the right Keyboard is actively select

If your iPhone or iPad uses different keyboards other than the stock app auto-correction options could be placed inside the keyboard settings. The most common keyboard app SwiftKey has auto-correction under its in app settings.

Path to enable / disable Auto-Correction in SwiftKey keyboard

Open SwiftKey> look for settings> enable auto-correction.

If the handset you use has multiple keyboard apps installed you can switch between those by tapping on the globe button.

Incompatible Language

Another reason for the iDevice to stop displaying Auto-Correction and Predictive text could be due to incompatible language. If you recently changed the iPhone language and thereafter you experienced issues with autocorrection this could be the reason for your issue.

Checkout the list of compatible languages to make sure that your language supports auto-correction and predictive text.

Make sure the iPad / iPhone runs latest software version

As we have experienced, some bugs could cause iPhones to break the usual iOS features due to older software. Sometimes it could be the other way around. Some new versions or beta releases could stop Auto-Correction and Predictive text. Therefore make sure to update the latest software and check to see the bug is fix. If you experienced autocorrection to stop just after an update check to see if it is common for other users as well. If so you might have to downgrade or wait for a newer release.

Finally, if none of the above options offer a fix for the Auto-Correction and Predictive text here’s the last solution in the list.

Rest All Settings

Go to the reset settings option to fix the most issues. Therefore it is worth trying out even as the last resource.

Note: Reset All Settings won’t affect your stored data. As stated “This will reset all settings. No data or media will be deleted”. Therefore you don’t need to worry about the stored data when performing “Reset All Settings”

Hope at least one of the above solutions was able to fix Auto-Correction on the iPhone and iPad. Please reach out through the comments section if you need any technical assistance.
